Bowie as long
been a friend of small and entrepreneurial businesses. The mom-and-pop store,
the neighborhood repair shop, the local dry cleaner, and all the small
professional offices add to the City's and the County's reputation as a good
place to live and work.
Now the Economic Development Committee, city staff, and the
Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce are seeking nominations of local businesses that
will be honored for their contributions to the community at a luncheon in early
May.
Nominations will be accepted in the categories of:
Small Business of the Year, for the small business that has
demonstrated qualities to be a prosperous and growing business;
Business of the Year, for a company that has demonstrated "high-level accomplishments" in categories such as financial success,
community involvement and customer satisfaction;
Entrepreneur of the Year, for the Bowie
entrepreneur who has demonstrated "outstanding leadership and tenacity in
managing all facets of business;" and
Community Service Award, for the business that has a record
of community involvement in Bowie.
Kelly Pierce, executive director of the Greater Bowie
Chamber of Commerce said, "I think it’s important for us as the business
organization in the community to recognize our business leadership. And it’s a
great opportunity for the Chamber to partner with the city’s Economic
Development Committee in making this happen."
Nominations should be e-mailed by the April 14 deadline to:
Kelly Pierce at Kelly@bowiechamber.org
or
John Henry King at jhking@cityofbowie.org.
Nominators should e-mail a paragraph about why the company
or business should be chosen and contact information for both the business and
the nominator. The recognition luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
May 2. The keynote speaker will be Maryland
comptroller Peter Franchot.
