Have Your Say on Bowie’s New City Hall Building
Public Meetings Planned in Maryland
The City of Bowie wants to hear from you. Every member of the community will have an opportunity to learn about plans for the new City Hall Building, and to comment on the plans. The new building is to be constructed on City-owned property at the intersection of Excalibur Roadand Evergreen Parkway, part of the Bowie Town Center.
The new City Hall is projected to be 80,000 square feet, and will be designed by the architectural firm of Grimm + Parker. It will replace the current City Hall and will provide office space for the City Manager’s Office, the Planning Department, the Finance Department, the Community Services Department, the Information Technology Department, the Police Department, City Council Chambers, meeting space for City committees and neighborhood association groups and a video production studio.
Three public meetings are scheduled at the current City Hall located at 2614 Kenhill Drive. First, a Stakeholder’s Meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 for residents living near the new City hall site. At this meeting, residents will be provided the opportunity to share their perspectives regarding the design of this project. Representatives from Grimm + Parker will attend this meeting to hear resident perspectives.
Next, a Community Meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008. At this meeting, an overview of the project will be presented to all members of the Bowie community, and there will be an opportunity for public comment.
Two weeks later, on Thursday, February 21, 2008, a second Community Meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. as a follow-up to the first two meetings. The architect will provide feedback to the community on the input received, and will continue a dialogue with the community on the project.
The City recognizes that this facility and its construction will affect many in the community. Bowie welcomes your insights and perspectives as this important project moves forward. If you are unable to attend any of these meetings and wish to offer your perspectives, or if you have any questions about these meetings or this project, please contact John Fitzwater, Assistant City Manager at 301-809-3075 or at jfitzwater@cityofbowie.org.
